Let’s Talk Waffles

Any good waffle bar starts with a good waffle. Now what that means to each person can differ. Some like them a little more soft and blonde, while others like a golden crisp.

When you’re making the waffles fresh, it’s easy to customize the order for each person. If you’ve pre-made your waffles and either refrigerated or froze them, you can use the oven or toaster to get them re-heated. Although this method is less preferred as it makes things soggy, it is an option when you don’t have time/room to make them fresh. (HINT: store with a napkin in the bag/container with your waffles to keep from getting soggy.)

Homemade waffles are always the best and making them from scratch is easier than you think. Check out our Sunday Morning Waffles recipe HERE.

You can also buy a box mix or buy the pre-frozen waffles too if you’re not the baking type.

Traditional Toppings

You can never go wrong with butter. On anything for that matter.

Syrups are also a must for any waffle bar. Of course there’s Maple, or you can branch out with all kinds of fruit options available like strawberry or blueberry.

You can also expand your offerings with a specialty syrup with a Scandinavian flair like Lingonberry or Black Elderberry. (Ahem, wondering where you could find some of these? How about The Valley Troll in Glenwood? :)

More to Explore

Looking to go beyond syrups? There are tons of options to explore when topping your waffles. Here’s a list that’s sure to get you inspired:

  • Whipped Cream (try adding vanilla or almond flavoring to make it even more special.)

  • Chocolate Chips (milk, dark or even white)

  • Fresh Fruit (berries, bananas, peaches)

  • Fruit Preserves & Jams (Lingonberry, Strawberry, etc.)

  • Peanut Butter or Hazelnut Spread

  • Brown Sugar (with a little butter - it’s a family favorite!)

  • Cinnamon & Sugar

  • Sauces (caramel, chocolate, butterscotch, etc.)

  • Honey

  • Sprinkles

Don’t Forget the Sides

In our house, no breakfast is complete without a side of meat. In true Mr. Joens fashion, here’s a full list of acceptable options that all pair well with waffles:

  • Bacon

  • Side Pork

  • Ham

  • Fried Chicken

  • Sausage Links or Patties

Celebrating Easter

Whether your waffle bar is hosted on Easter Sunday or another day, remember to relax, have fun and enjoy. Celebrating together is a gift.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
— 1 Peter 1:3
